If anyone’s ever told you that the way to wealth and happiness is to go to school, get good grades, go to university, get a degree, get a good job and build a career, you should ask for your money back. They were lying to you! It’s what you’re supposed to think, of course. But it’s just not true.
Likewise, if they told you that you can have a job for life, or even a career for life; that’s not true either. It used to be true, but those days are long gone.
Welcome to the new world.
It’s a world full of opportunity. The good life is there, yours for the taking, but you have to learn to think for yourself, act in your own best interests.
If you want freedom, if you want a rich life, then you can’t afford to follow the system. Here’s what they want you to do…
Go to university, get a degree, and leave with a mountain of debt. Get a job where you earn just enough money to stay alive and eventually start paying off that debt. But then you become a consumer. You’re supposed to buy things; more and more things, including a car and a house which, of course, will give you even more debt. You have to stay in the job to earn enough money to pay your debts.
And that continues until some day in the distant future when you magically have plenty of money and plenty of time to enjoy life. Of course it doesn’t actually work like that. Many people are miserable in their jobs. Most people end up broke and, instead of retiring wealthy at 50, they have to work until they’re 60, or 70, or until they drop dead.
Is that what you want? Is that the life you want to live?
There’s nothing inherently wrong about having a job; it all depends how you view it. If you understand that a job may, at times, be a convenient way to trade some of your time for someone else’s money and some experience, that can be useful. If you think that having a job is going to give you any kind of freedom, or make you rich, then you’re trapped.
But how do you escape the trap?
Start a Side Hustle
If you’re going to have a job, try to make sure it’s one that’s going to give you experience that’s going to be useful for the life you want to create. One where you learn skills that you can freelance in your own business, or make contacts that you can leverage later. And, while you’re in a job, start a side hustle.
What’s a side hustle?
A side hustle is simply a way to make money alongside whatever else you’re doing. You may even have your own business already, rather than a job, but if that business isn’t one designed to give you the kind of freedom you desire then guess what; You should start a aside hustle too.
Side hustle for security
What will you do if your company gets downsized? What happens f you want to move to a different state, or a different country? Where;s the money going to come from? If you have a side hustle, you still have an income. If you lose your job, but have a side hustle, it’s far easier to build that into a full time income than it is to start from scratch.
Having a side hustle, or two, gives you the kind of security that a job never will.
How to start a side hustle
The easiest way to get earning money is to start freelancing your skills. Can you write? Do you know how to code. Cab you take good photographs? Almost any skill you have can be freelanced. And if you’re working online it doesn’t matter what hours you keep. The world is your marketplace. Somebody, somewhere in the world will be awake, working and willing to pay you.
If you don’t want to freelance, do something else. Build a website. Start a blog. Sell stuff. Create some affiliate sales. There are countless ways to make money online, may of which can be built into a business which, ultimately, gives you freedom of both time and money.
The key is to get started, and hustle as though your life depends on it because, in reality, it does!
You can continue existing for the next 40 or 60 years, or you can truly LIVE. But if you want to live then you gotta hustle.
So start hustling.
