All successful people share one thing in common; a winning attitude. They may have worked hard, had the right connections, got a good education, maybe even had a lucky break. And none of that matters nearly as much as attitude. The winners in life keep a positive attitude.
Attitude is 100% of Everything
If you take the word ATTITUDE and map the letters to numbers, so A = 1, E = 5 and so on, then you get 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100 – yep, attitude is 100%, and that’s proof!
Your attitude matters, more than anything else, more than skills, knowledge, time, money, contacts, age, location or any other attribute you care to name.
Henry Ford knew this:
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
~ Henry Ford
Ford was not especially skilled or knowledgeable, but he knew one important thing: the importance of attitude. He believed it could be done, and so a way was found.
Skills can be learned, and you can always practice to get better at anything. Knowledge can be found and learned. Or, as Henry Ford did, you can hire people who already have the right knowledge and skills. Successful people also know the power of collaboration and cooperation – you can’t create success alone.
The Power of Positivity
“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”
~ Zig Ziglar
Negative thinking will never help you, it only gives you more problems. Negativity will give you reasons, or excuses, as to why it can’t be done and why you shouldn’t even try.
Positive thinking invites solutions to your problem. A positive attitude is one of motivation, determination and creativity. You may not have the answer yet, but positive thinking will get you there. Positive thinking says there will be a way, you just have to find it.
An Attitude of Gratitude
It might seem ridiculous, when you have a world full of problems, but you need to learn to be grateful for what you have. Even the little things. Did you wake up this morning? Are you living and breathing? That’s a start – and some days it might seem like that’s all you have!
Practice being grateful. Start small. Be grateful if the sun is shining, you have a roof over your head, clean water to drink or food to eat. Start seeing problems as opportunities to grow and learn. Learn to love problems and be grateful for them.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
~ Oprah Winfrey
You should read Oprah’s story if you ever doubt that attitude is more important than your current circumstances – she’s an inspiration, and won’t let you hide behind that excuse any longer!
Expecting the Best
You don’t need to go all Pollyanna about it, but do try to see the best in everyone and every situation. If you expect poor service you’ll probably get it, and if you expect people to treat you badly then you’re inviting them to do so. Expect excellence instead.
“It’s a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.”
~ W. Somerset Maugham
When you start to see, and expect, excellence everywhere, your world can change overnight. People will begin to treat you differently, events will turn in your favor, help and opportunities will arrive from unforeseen places.
It’s just a shift of attitude, but the effects can be profound. But then, after all, attitude is everything.
